01The challenge
Huge datasets, and users who need answers now
WiserTrade turns official trade statistics into insight for airports, seaports, economic development offices, trade associations, and researchers. Its data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau, Statistics Canada, INEGI, the European Commission, and the United Nations — and users want to query it by commodity, port, partner country, transport mode, weight, and value.
- Very large, multi-source datasets covering 160+ countries and decades of history
- Users who need ready answers, not raw data files
- Different audiences — airports, seaports, economic developers — asking different questions
- Reports that must go straight into board meetings and stakeholder briefings

04Lessons learned
What made it work
Start from the question.
Express Reports were designed around what airports and ports actually ask, not around the database.
Performance is a feature.
With datasets this large, fast queries are what make self-service possible.
The output is the product.
A report that's ready for the boardroom saves users more time than any raw export.
