01The challenge
Manual work for every small task
PeproTech manufactures products used by life sciences researchers. Before this project, everyday tasks were manual. It needed a single web application connected to its products, resources, and support — and, for the first time, automated payments and shipping.
- Manual processes for orders, payments, and shipping
- A large catalog that researchers need to search with scientific precision
- Detailed technical data for every product
- Support content spread across documents and email
02Our solution
One application, built around how researchers buy
- 01
Customer accounts
Each customer gets an account with personal details, a product wishlist, order history, and payments.
- 02
Catalog & search
A dynamic product catalog with filters for catalog number, product name, category, sub-category, research interest, and new products.
- 03
Product pages & ordering
Full technical details — synonyms, AA sequence, source, biological activity, purity, cross-reactivity, and country of origin — with size and quantity selection, cart, and PayPal checkout.
- 04
Resources & support
A resources library with publications and references, plus troubleshooting guides, FAQs, protocols, and technical investigation forms.

- Payments and shipping automated, supporting on-time delivery.
- Online ordering opened new sales opportunities and a wider service area.
- Self-service support through protocols, FAQs, and troubleshooting guides.
04Lessons learned
What made it work
Search the way scientists search.
Filters by catalog number and research interest mattered more than generic keyword search.
Automate the whole order.
Connecting payment and shipping is what turned a catalog into a sales channel.
Keep it simple.
We designed every flow so a first-time visitor could understand it without help.
05Technology
How we built it
Java EE with Spring MVC and Hibernate, RESTful web services, MySQL, jQuery and HTML5 on the front end, PayPal payments, email validation, Google Analytics, and Apache Tomcat.
